A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules, which are binding and final on matters relating to this 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway.

PURPOSE:
The California Lottery (Lottery) utilizes its social media channels to directly interact with the public, educate consumers and players regarding Lottery products and programs, and provide various programs that motivate purchases. The Lottery is holding a “California Lottery 40th Anniversary 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway” to maintain awareness of Lottery products and motivate future purchases of Lottery tickets. This 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway is subject to these Official Rules in addition to other California Lottery directives, regulations, policies and procedures.

ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible to participate in the 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway, entrants must be 18 years or older (at the time of entry) and a resident of State of California.  A government-issued photo ID will be required to collect any prizes. 

This 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway is not open to certain Lottery vendors and persons prohibited from receiving prizes under the California State Lottery Act, including employees of the California Lottery, their agents, and their family members residing in the same household. 

The Lottery may, in its sole discretion, disqualify any entrant that it reasonably believes is ineligible under these Official Rules. All decisions, including eligibility and disqualification, shall be deemed final and binding and are not subject to challenge or appeal.

HOW TO ENTER: 
Between 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time (“PT”) on October 1, 2025 and 11:59 p.m. PT on October 31, 2025 (the “Entry Period”), comment on the California Lottery official Facebook and Instagram account’s posted official entry posts. You must like and follow the official California Lottery Facebook and Instagram accounts. Comment “Happy 40th” and tag 3 other accounts in your comment. All entries must complete all the necessary steps in order to be considered valid. All entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. PT on October 31, 2025 to be eligible.  Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means, or by any means which subvert the entry process, are void.  All entries become the property of the Lottery and will not be acknowledged or returned. Only one winner per household will be permitted. Any additional winners found to reside in the same household will be disqualified by the Lottery. 

All entries must be in good taste and not violate any applicable laws. Entries containing alcohol, profanity, nudity, or persons under 18 will be excluded from the 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway. The Lottery reserves the right to disqualify any entry to the 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway it does not feel is in keeping with good taste.

PRIZE:
Forty (40) total winners will each be awarded a prize. Each winner will receive a prize package that includes: a California Lottery tote bag, California Lottery beach ball, California Lottery beach towel, California Lottery ear buds, and California Lottery tumbler. The estimated total prize value is $4.25. This Prize is awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee, either express or implied by the Lottery.  Winner may not substitute, assign or transfer the prize or redeem the prize for cash. The Lottery reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to substitute the prize (or portion thereof) with one of comparable or greater value.  Winner is responsible for all applicable federal, state and local taxes, if any, as well as any other costs and expenses associated with prize acceptance and use not specified herein as being provided.

DRAWING:
The Lottery will randomly select forty (40) winners (20 winners from Facebook, 20 winners from Instagram). Lottery will randomly select an additional 20 winners (10 from Facebook, 10 from Instagram as alternates if winners do not respond or are ineligible) from the eligible entries received during the 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway period in a drawing held on or about November 7, 2025.  Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.

WINNER NOTIFICATION:
Potential winners will be notified through Instagram Direct Messenger and Facebook Messenger by the California Lottery and may be required to execute and return an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release and, where lawful, a publicity release within three (3) days of date of issuance. If such documents are not returned within the specified time period, prize notification is returned as undeliverable, or a potential winner is not in compliance with these rules, prize will be forfeited and, at California Lottery’s discretion, an alternate winner selected.

Official winner announcements will be made via the California Lottery Instagram and Facebook account to prompt users to check their direct messages to find out if they won. Winners will be notified starting on November 10, 2025 through November 12, 2025. All winners will be verified through the submission of a valid State of California ID. Prizes will be sent to the address on the California ID submitted. No substitute locations will be accepted. Prizes will be sent out no later than six weeks after the verification of a winning entry.

ADDITIONAL TERMS:
Participants are responsible for complying with these Official Rules in addition to state and federal law, and applicable Lottery regulations. Proof of age, eligibility, and identity must be furnished upon request. Prizes cannot be substituted or exchanged for cash.  By participating in the 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway, and/or accepting any prize, the winner agrees to release and hold harmless the California State Lottery and its employees, commissioners, agents, and officers from any claim, demand, judgment, award, and/or any liability of any kind whatsoever arising from using said prize or participating in this 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway. Any expenses including taxes associated with a prize are the winner's responsibility. In addition, winners consent to the Lottery’s use of their submitted content, names and likenesses for publicity purposes without further compensation.

The Lottery assumes no responsibility for any telephone, computer system, hardware, software or program malfunctions, disconnects or other errors, failures, network connections, etc., of any nature, in conjunction with this 40th Anniversary Social Media Giveaway.
