Couple Claims Top Prize-Winning Fantasy 5 Ticket Sold in Chino Hills

Share:

SACRAMENTO – Laughter filled the California Lottery’s Santa Fe Springs District Office this afternoon. Who wouldn’t be happy knowing that they had more than a quarter of a million dollars headed their way?

That’s the amount being awarded to the holders of two Fantasy 5 tickets that hit all five numbers in Sunday night’s draw. Both winning tickets were sold in the Los Angeles area and split the top prize of $501,316. That comes out to a whopping $250,658 apiece!

Catherine and Mark Van der Linden were holding on to one of those tickets until they submitted their claim. “I couldn’t believe it,” Catherine said about the moment she discovered her win. That was some scene according to Mark. “She was jumping off her chair!”

The winning numbers were 3, 5, 22, 7 and 2. The Van der Linden’s say they pick their own numbers, ones that symbolize birthdays and anniversary dates. They were determined to stick with their lucky numbers even after Catherine noticed on the Lottery website that some of her Fantasy 5 picks had been selected before in a previous draw.

While this was a huge win for the couple, they’ve actually enjoyed some smaller wins. “A small pot for $400 and a few times we hit three numbers for seventeen or eighteen dollars,” said Mark. “I would tell people, it’s possible, anybody can win!”

The Van der Linden’s bought their lucky ticket at the Stater Brothers market located at 14290 Chino Hills Parkway in Chino Hills (San Bernardino County). The other winning ticket was sold just about 40 miles away at Liquorland Deli, which is located at 3580 Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach (Los Angeles County). That ticket has not been claimed.

The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their tickets, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.

Fantasy 5 offers some of the best odds of any California Lottery game. A player wins the Fantasy 5 jackpot simply by matching five numbers out of a field of 39. Winning numbers are drawn every day. The top prize starts at $50,000 and increases daily until it is hit. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers.

And be sure to participate in the California Lottery’s Fantasy 5 Bonus Bucks promotion. For every purchase of $5 or more of Fantasy 5 on a single ticket you will automatically receive a Fantasy 5 Bonus Bucks code. Enter the code at https://secondchance.calottery.com/second-chance/index/index/type/FANTASY5/ to participate in weekly draws for a chance to win cash prizes up to $10,000.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 94 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. Since 2000, Lottery players have contributed $1 billion to public schools each year, and, since we began in 1985, Lottery players have contributed a total of more than $25 billion to education. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
