A Lucky Stop for a Hollywood Tour Guide Leads to a $900,000 POWERBALL® Win!

SACRAMENTO – For Sonny Alexander, it was just another day of work in Hollywood. See, Sonny is a tour guide who shows tourists how the rich and famous live. Little did he know, his stop at Shelly Café, which is located at 7013 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, would lead to fortune and fame for the tour bus operator.

Two tickets in the May 4 POWERBALL draw had the five winning numbers of 26, 36, 40, 7, and 12, but missed the Powerball number 17. That means the two winners split the prize of $1,835,712, making each winning ticket worth $917,856.
Sonny says he was just killing some time recently while the tourists took pictures in Hollywood when he decided to purchase 10 POWERBALL tickets. “I purchased the tickets and didn’t think anything of it,” he said. But then later when he decided to check his tickets at the same spot, during the same tour, Sonny realized he had won $917,856!

The tour guide plans to spend his winnings on higher, spiritual aspirations. “I am going to buy a church! I have been praying to God to get money to buy a Greek Orthodox Church,” Sonny said.

Alfredo Pablo, the other lucky winner who purchased his ticket at Water Gourmet, which is located at 3756 West Avenue in Los Angeles, says he plans to buy a new house for his family. “I was checking the numbers as my dad told them to me. I didn’t know what to do. I was shaking,” Alfredo said.

The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.
