Winners' Stories

Edwin Lasley

Share:

  • Life-Long Educator Gets to Count to $1 Million.

  • Edwin Lasley has been a teacher at a continuation school in Chino for the past 40 years. He takes his job seriously and enjoys what he does. So when he recently took his regular lunch break he made sure to be back in exactly 30 minutes, just as he always does. However, this time he returned holding a “Millions in Cash” Scratchers® ticket worth $1 million.

Lasley is the 14th instant millionaire created by the Lottery’s Millions in Cash game. He purchased his ticket at Express Liquor, which is located at 4489 Riverside Drive in Chino. With only $5 on him, he bought just one ticket and discovered he was a big winner.

“I was very quiet about it,” Lasley said. “I only told our two secretaries and they both told me they were ‘green-eyed envious’ of me.”

Lasley knows the feeling. He was once a contestant on The Big Spin. He won $2500 on the show, but looked on as another contestant won $1 million and couldn’t help but feel a little jealous. But his persistence paid off – and he said he was upset that he didn’t have a couple bucks more to buy one SuperLotto Plus ticket and one MEGA Millions® ticket for the $380 million draw.

One thing is for certain – Lasley plans to keep his job teaching. His only plans for his newfound wealth are to pay some bills. Also, he asked for the day off, which his school’s principal granted.
