SACRAMENTO – Valente Hernandez is a loving father of a very special little boy. His two-year-old son was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, and as a result, the little boy has already undergone more than 20 surgeries. As you could imagine, this can be an extremely emotional and financial burden on a family. Today, Valente Hernandez is feeling more hopeful than ever before about his family’s future. That’s because the proud 23-year-old dad scratched off a California Gold Scratchers® ticket worth $1 million.
Hernandez told us that as soon as he realized how much he had won, all he could think about was his son. We asked Hernandez how this money would help his family, and he told us that “100% of the money is going toward my son and his treatment…and if there’s a little money left over, that would be good too.”
Hernandez told us that he believes God was the reason he bought the winning ticket. He had $30 in his wallet and was going to put it all toward gas, but he said something made him stop when the pump hit $20. Hernandez used the money he had left over to buy the $10 California Gold Scratchers ticket that is now worth $1 million.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Crown Valley 76, which is located at 26411 Crown Valley Parkway in Mission Viejo (Orange County). The lucky retail location also comes out a big winner. They will receive a bonus of a half a percent, or $5,000, just for selling the top prize-winning ticket.
