  • Modesto Powerball® Winner Claims $1.4 Million Prize – Plans to Keep Shopping at the Dollar Store!

  • SACRAMENTO – “I’ve always been a winner in life.” California’s newest millionaire, Elfred Meitzenheimer, doesn’t mince words. The Modesto man, with a larger than life personality, strolled into the Sacramento District Office today to claim his $1,444,906 Powerball prize.

Now that kind of money could go straight to someone’s head, but not this 63-year-old retiree. “I’m the same person all the time, whether I have a little money or a lot of money.” He even described his winnings as, “Just a little more money to spend at the Dollar Store. That’s all it is.”

Meitzenheimer matched five of six numbers in last week’s $425 million Powerball draw. His winning ticket was made up of numbers he plays all the time – a combination of his siblings’ birthdates, along with former and current addresses. That ticket matched the winning numbers 17, 49, 54, 35 and 1 – missing only the Powerball number of 34.

The retired Gallo Glass Co. worker purchased the ticket at Stop Save Liquor #2 on Coffee Road in Modesto, a store he visits almost daily to buy his lottery tickets. And get this – the day after his big Powerball win, he was back in the store buying tickets for the next draw. “I’ll play it again and again and again,” he said. “I’m going to keep my routine and keep doing what I do.”

So what will he “do” with his $1.4 million prize? First, he plans help his mother – she’s his priority. Once she’s taken care of, Meitzenheimer wants to splurge a little saying, “I’m going to several Audi dealerships. Several.” He only plans to buy one car but wants dealers to, as he put it, “Show me what you got!”

Meitzenheimer isn’t the only winner here. Stop Save Liquor #2 will receive a retailer bonus of $7,224.53 for selling the winning ticket.
