SCRATCHERS FAQs

What are the odds of winning a Scratchers game prize?

Each Scratchers game has its own prize odds which can be found on the game’s page and on the back of the Scratchers ticket. To find more about each game, click here.
Where does the money from Scratchers games go?

More than 94 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to the community in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. See how Lottery funds are making a difference »
How can I claim a Scratchers games prize?

Prizes $599 and under can be claimed at a Lottery retail location. Prizes $600 and over require a claim form and must be claimed by contacting a Lottery district office in person or by mail. Find out how to claim your prize »
Why did the number of available prizes increase?

Due to the popularity of some Scratchers games, Lottery Retailers may risk running out of these tickets.  When this happens, more tickets are printed and shipped to Retailers. These newly printed tickets contain the same proportion of winning tickets as the existing tickets. More total tickets, means more total prizes. The odds of winning with the newly printed tickets are the same as for those tickets already in the stores.

What are Ending/Ended Games?
To keep the playing experience fresh, older Scratchers games end and are replaced with new games. Ending Scratchers games are those on their way to becoming retired. Non-winning ending Scratchers games must be entered into Replay before the entry deadline. See End of Game info »
What is Replay?
Replay is a Second Chance draw opportunity to replay your non-winning Scratchers tickets for another chance to win cash prizes. With each entry, your non-winning Scratchers ticket will be entered into a Pool Draw and an End of Game Draw. Go to Replay »
Are prizes taxable?

All prizes over $599 are subject to Federal income taxes and other offsets required by law. However, there are no California state/local taxes.
