PAST CAPTAIN'S SPOTLIGHT
Get to Know Captain Joe Landon
Q: What do you like most about being a Jackpot Captain?
A: Being the hero when we win.
Q: Why do your co-workers like you as Captain?
A: I send out many email reminders for people to get me their money to buy tickets. I take prepayments so they don’t have to bring me money every time we play and I will front people money if they are on vacation or at home sick. I always give those people who give me coins a hard time because it’s never fun to buy tickets with a bunch of change, especially nickels and pennies.
Q: What is your favorite game?
A: SuperLotto Plus.
Q: Do you ever play MEGA Millions?
A: Yes we play both MEGA Millions and SuperLotto Plus depending on how big the jackpots are and how busy we are at work.
Q: Why do you play the Lottery?
A: Because it’s fun to dream together and make our future lottery winning plans.
Q: How do you motivate your group?
A: I just let them know when we are playing and what the jackpot is at.
Q: Does your group have any rituals, good luck charms or lucky numbers?
A: Nope, just quick picks, and hoping to get lucky.
Q: What would your reaction be if your group won the Lottery?
A: I wouldn’t believe it until we got the money in our bank accounts.
Q: Can you elaborate a little on what maybe some of the others in your group consider doing if your group won?
A: Some would probably retire, which I joke could benefit me in getting a promotion to their job when they leave. Others would pay off houses, retire, travel, and have a huge party.
Q: What would you buy yourself and what would you buy another person?
A: I would pay off my mortgage loan and take people out to lunch.
Q: What type of work do you do?
A: I am an accountant. I have my CPA license and spend most of my time working on financial reporting.
Q: What does your group do for fun at work?
A: We celebrate everyone’s birthday with treats at work and decorating their cubicle or office (in my case, I usually am decorating/making a mess). We have potlucks for baby showers and other celebrations.
Q: What does “fsu” in your email stand for?
A: Florida State University. I grew up in Florida before meeting my wife who is from California and dragged me out here after we finished school so we could be closer to her family.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: Play sports and hang out with my family.
Q: Any other interesting pieces of info you can share?
A: I have a daughter who is almost two and my wife is pregnant with our second, a boy, who is due June 28th. My wife and I both went to Florida State University. Go Noles! My wife is a high school science teacher.
