Other states have a "MEGAplier" and additional wagers – why not California?
Participation in the multiplier and additional wager feature for MEGA Millions is determined on a state by state basis in compliance with federal and state law and local regulations. California has elected not to offer this game feature.
Other states offer a guaranteed $1 million 5 of 5 prize, why not California?
In California, MEGA Millions prize payout amounts are pari-mutuel and will vary depending on ticket sales and the number of winners. Therefore, California MEGA Millions prize amounts will differ from the guaranteed prizes shown on the MEGA Millions website. In many cases though, the shared pari-mutuel 5 of 5 prize won in California is more than the guaranteed prize offered in other states.
