Assemblymember Ron Calderon Presents California Lottery's Exceptional Educator Award to Montebello Teacher


SACRAMENTO -- Since April of 2001 the California Lottery has presented the "Exceptional Educator" awards on "The Big Spin®" television show. This week's show aired Saturday, June 7, 2003, in twelve television markets statewide.

Assemblymember Ron Calderon presented Pat Bayha with the California Lottery's Exceptional Educator Award on "The Big Spin® show. Assemblymember Calderon explained, "Pat is a Social Studies teacher who has dedicated her career to giving Montebello High School students the best education possible."

A veteran teacher of 38 years, Bayha has masterfully taught every social studies subject at the high school level, including U.S. History and World History, Geography, Civics, Psychology and many others. Her current passion is Art History. Bayha's classroom is a veritable museum, filled with ancient artifacts, multi-cultural objects, works of art, native tapestries and clothing from around the world. She has been a mentor teacher for five years and has developed various curriculums. She also has spearheaded countless independent studies which have provided students a "real world" learning experience through world travel. Calderon concluded, "Pat, for your steadfast commitment to your students, I'm proud to proclaim you an Exceptional Educator."

The California Lottery's distinguished "Exceptional Educator" award program enlists various legislators to present these awards which recognize the outstanding teachers whose extraordinary efforts in their schools have added significantly to the success of California students.
