San Andreas $8 Million SuperLotto Plus® Winner Finally Claims Jackpot

Share:

SACRAMENTO – It’s been almost a month of anticipation for the small town of San Andreas, as residents waited to find out who the lucky California Lottery player was who won $8 million on Christmas Day. The wait ended today as Judith Vermason showed up at the Lottery’s Sacramento District Office to claim her newfound fortune.

Vermason purchased that SuperLotto Plus winning ticket around noon on December 24th at Treats General Store, which is located at 197 East Charles Street in San Andreas (Calaveras County). It matched the winning numbers 26, 33, 40, 8, 23 and the Mega number 14. It was not a Quick Pick®. Vermason chose to take the cash value of that winning ticket which is $4.4 million. She says she plans to invest the money for her retirement.

The winning doesn’t stop with just Vermason, as Treats General Store gets a $40,000 retailer bonus for selling that lucky ticket. The owner of Treats, Fred Lavaroni, told the California Lottery he plans on splitting $20,000 of the bonus with his 23 employees. “We consider the employees the reason this business survives” Lavaroni said.

Nettie Abraham, a Treats employee, says she plans on using her portion of the bonus to help pay for a 40th wedding anniversary trip to Las Vegas. “That money could help after the trip,” Abraham said.

The Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket in ink, put it in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible.

SuperLotto Plus is California’s own in-state jackpot game. Players pick five numbers from 1 to 47 plus a Mega number from 1 to 27. The draw takes place at Lottery Headquarters in Sacramento on Wednesdays and Saturdays right after draw entry closes at 7:45 p.m. PST. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s SuperLotto Plus site for more information.
