Two Prizes Totaling Over $1.2 Million Claimed Today

SACRAMENTO – On Wednesday, two lucky Lottery players came up big, winning prizes totaling well over $1.2 million. One of those players was James Cole, who purchased a POWERBALL® ticket that successfully matched five of six numbers earning him $943,604!

We asked Cole what his reaction was to finding out the good news, and he said “I think I jumped about 10 feet in the air!” Cole, who is a die-hard San Diego Padres fan, said he plans on getting season tickets. When asked about what other things he plans to spend his money on, Cole replied “I’ll have to wait and see, but it will sure feel good to get out of debt.”

Cole purchased his POWERBALL ticket at Excalibur Liquor, which is located at 5575 Baltimore Drive in La Mesa. His ticket matched the numbers 57, 47, 46, 52 and 7, missing only the Mega number of 17.

Wednesday’s other lucky winner was Artin Missakin. He purchased a Fantasy 5 ticket that successfully matched all five numbers to earn him the top prize of $297,983. Missakin, who chose his own numbers, told us that he has been playing the same numbers for a while now, and that he previously matched four of five numbers winning him over $400.

Missakin purchased his winning Fantasy 5 ticket at Big Jim’s Donuts, which is located at 1141 East Broadway in Glendale. His ticket matched the numbers 13, 16, 36, 23 and 32.

No one in POWERBALL’s 44 jurisdictions hit Wednesday’s jackpot, meaning the POWERBALL jackpot now grows to an estimated $127 million for Saturday night’s drawing.

The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.
