Vietnam Vet Wins More Than $300,000
SACRAMENTO – When Sheridan Hope called his daughter to tell her he had just won a bunch of money playing Daily Derby®, her response was “yeah whatever.” It’s not the response that Hope was eh – hoping for. But when he produced the ticket that matched all three winning horses and the final race time, she knew that her dad, the Vietnam Vet and former drill instructor was not messing around. Hope actually thought he won around $100,000, until his daughter checked with a retailer and confirmed the ticket was actually worth $320,315!
Hope purchased the winning ticket at Henry’s Market, which is located at 18409 South Avalon Boulevard in Carson (Los Angeles County). The winning horses were: 1st place – 6 – Whirl Win; 2nd place – 2 – Lucky Star; and 3rd place – 01 – Gold Rush. The winning race time was a blistering 1:42.14.
Daily Derby combines the fun and excitement of horse racing with several ways to win, including the chance to win twice on a single ticket. This unique game was the first horse racing-themed game in the U.S. played on regular Lottery terminals. The game can be played at any of the Lottery’s 21,000 retailers by selecting three horses from a field of 12; one to finish 1st, one to finish 2nd, one to finish 3rd; and a race time.
Lottery players can pick their horses before 6:30 p.m. for the current day’s draw. The Daily Derby draw is held after 6:30 p.m., at which time you can get winning information from your retailer’s terminal, or you can visit the Lottery’s website at http://www.calottery.com/win/winning-numbers for the results.
The California Lottery wants to remind winners to sign the back of their tickets, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.
The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 95 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
