Cue the Excitement over $1 Million Lottery Win in Orange County
SACRAMENTO – You’ve heard about people discovering their Lottery win while at home, or sitting in their car outside a convenience store where they just purchased their lucky ticket. Not for Kevin Tran. The 26-year-old was hanging out in a pool hall with a couple of friends when it happened. The California Black Exclusive Scratchers® ticket he had just bought at a Lottery retailer down the street hit it big. Tran scored the game’s top prize – $1 million! Scroll down just a bit and you will see exactly what Tran saw.
So, what followed? Screaming? Cheering? Not quite. “I didn’t say anything, or tell anybody,” Tran said. He eventually made it home, million dollar ticket in tow, and tried everything he could to fall asleep. That included trying to safeguard his ticket. “I kept it right next to me,” Tran revealed, or under the pillow to be exact.
The win wasn’t the only thing keeping him up. “Today is my uncle’s death anniversary,” explained Tran, on the day he claimed his ticket at the Lottery’s Santa Ana District Office. He admitted mixed feelings over accepting the joyous news of his win during such an otherwise somber time. “I was thinking about my uncle and how I have to take care of my family,” Tran said.
The young winner believes it will take some time to figure out exactly what to do with this sudden windfall, but he had to know something like this might happen. Indeed. That’s why Tran said he bought his ticket in the first place. “There’s a chance. That’s why I kept on playing.”
He isn’t the only winner. Katella Liquor, the retailer that sold Tran that million dollar ticket, will received a bonus of $5,000. That store is located at 7556 Katella Avenue in Stanton (Orange County).
