Two California Gold Contestants Triple Their Win Weekly Grand Winner Announced

SACRAMENTO -- The new California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday September 11, 1999 in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $1,320,000, including the announcement of the latest Weekly Grand winner.

Khuon Ngo, from Monterey Park, with his wife at his side, spun the largest prize wheel in the world after becoming the finalist on the first segment of this week's California Gold game. Ngo spun the wheel and it landed on "Triple", which entitles Ngo to three times the amount of his next spin. Ngo's next spin landed on $40,000, which made his total win $120,000. As for the couple's plans, they will vacation and help out their family.

The next spin of the wheel brought Jesse Cole, a maintenance helper from Carson, another "Triple" spoke. Cole spun the prize wheel again and it landed on $30,000, making his total win of the day $90,000. Cole plans to take care of his family and use his prize money to go back to school. "I've been wanting to go back to school for a long time," said Cole, "now I'll be able to."

Fantasy 5 contestant John Maglieri, a retired contractor from Guerneville will be paying off some of his bills and giving some of his prize money to his daughter with his $25,000 win.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools, and 14 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.8 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $10 billion for public schools and has provided an annual average of approximately 38 percent of the Lottery's total revenues to schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
