Dedicated College Student Claims MEGA Millions® Ticket Worth Over $150,000!

SACRAMENTO - Back on March 15th, full-time college student Jesse Leon correctly matched five out of six MEGA Millions numbers to win $157,639! Nineteen days later, Leon strolled into the California Lottery’s Santa Fe Springs District Office to claim his prize. Leon either has one heck of a school schedule or is just really dedicated, because he told us the reason it took him so long to claim was that he was busy with school. In fact, Leon said that he even contemplated waiting until he was out of school for summer to claim his prize.

Leon told us he doesn’t plan to do anything too exciting with his money, he just plans to pay off some debt and also give some money to his mother who actually helped him pick out the winning numbers. The winning ticket was purchased at Astro Liquor, which is located at 10000 South Avalon Boulevard in Los Angeles. The lucky ticket successfully matched the numbers 8, 22, 4, 32 and 17, missing only the Mega number of 8.

No one matched all six numbers in last night’s MEGA Millions draw, so Friday’s jackpot is an estimated $50 million. The estimated cash value of the jackpot is $36.9 million.

The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.

MEGA Millions is a multistate game, played in California and 43 other jurisdictions (41 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Players pick five numbers from 1 to 56 plus a Mega number from 1 to 46. Draw times are Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s MEGA Millions site for more information.
