Fortune Teller Correctly Predicts SoCal Woman’s $216,988 Fantasy 5 Top Prize

Share:

Brenda Tran

SACRAMENTO – Brenda Tran is a big-time player of the California Lottery. In fact, the tablet computer her boyfriend recently bought her is used only for two things: checking her email and checking the evening’s winning Lottery numbers.

So it’s only fitting that on August 6, Tran was checking her numbers on her computer while sitting in her living room and she noticed that she had matched all five Fantasy 5 numbers to win the top prize of $216,988. Tran came into the Lottery’s Santa Fe Springs District Office with her boyfriend late yesterday to claim her prize.

She said when she saw the numbers she said “no way! Oh my gosh!” and then immediately called her boyfriend, who was on his way to Las Vegas for work. He described her as “frantic” and said his first reaction was to ask her “are you kidding me?”

Tran purchased her winning ticket at Toros ampm Mini Mart, which is located at 3706 East Foothill Boulevard in Pasadena. The ticket successfully matched all five numbers – 36, 28, 37, 34 and 11.

Tran said she went into the retail location in search of Lady Luck…and by that we mean she was looking to buy some California Lottery Black Scratchers® tickets. She won some money on one of her Scratchers and then noticed that the Fantasy 5 jackpot was high for that night’s draw and decided to spend $5 on some tickets. That proved to be a wise move.

Her boyfriend added another story – he had recently taken a trip to India where he visited a fortune teller who told him “you have a new girlfriend and she’s going to come into money soon.” So perhaps it’s the fortune teller that was Lady Luck?

Regardless, Tran is happy and says she plans to use some of her winnings to help pay off her daughter’s college loans.

The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their tickets, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.

Fantasy 5 offers some of the best odds of any California Lottery game. A player wins the Fantasy 5 jackpot simply by matching five numbers out of a field of 39. Winning numbers are drawn every day. The top prize starts at $50,000 and increases daily until it is hit. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers.

And be sure to participate in the California Lottery’s Fantasy 5 Bonus Bucks promotion. For every purchase of $5 or more of Fantasy 5 on a single ticket you will automatically receive a Fantasy 5 Bonus Bucks code. Enter the code at https://secondchance.calottery.com/second-chance/index/index/type/FANTASY5/ to participate in weekly draws for a chance to win cash prizes up to $10,000.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 94 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. Since 2000, Lottery players have contributed $1 billion to public schools each year, and, since we began in 1985, Lottery players have contributed a total of more than $25 billion to education. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
