A Mother’s Day SuperLotto Plus® Jackpot Surprise For A Lucky Player in Los Angeles

Share:

SACRAMENTO, May 9, 2005 – Lottery officials announced that one ticket won last Saturday’s $56 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot. “While Mother’s Day celebrations took center stage this weekend, someone had an extra special Mother’s Day surprise,” said Acting Lottery Director Chon Gutierrez. “A lucky winner bought a ticket worth $56 million at Broadway Food Corner in Los Angeles.”

A single jackpot winner of $56 million who chooses the 26 graduated annual payments would receive approximately $1.4 million the first year and $2.8 million the 26th year (before federal withholding). A single jackpot winner who chooses the cash option would receive the estimated cash value which is roughly half the announced jackpot or $28 million (before federal withholding).

Saturday’s draw produced 680,009 winning tickets of prizes ranging from $1 to $56 million. The winning jackpot ticket was sold at Broadway Food Corner, 315 W 5th Street in Los Angeles. The retailer will receive a $280,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, which is half of one percent of $56 million. The $56 million ticket is the fourth largest prize ever sold in Los Angeles County since the Lottery began. The largest SuperLotto Plus jackpot in Los Angeles County was $91 million, won by Patricia Frierson on August 9, 2003.

SuperLotto Plus can be played at approximately 18,000 retail business establishments statewide. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players can purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
