MEDIA ADVISORY -- POWERBALL® Jackpot Soars to $425 Million for Wednesday’s Draw

SACRAMENTO – There is exciting news coming out of the California Lottery.  The POWERBALL jackpot has now been increased to an estimated $425 million for Wednesday’s draw, which makes it the third largest POWERBALL jackpot of all time.

The estimated cash option for Wednesday’s draw is obviously higher as well, $244.7 million.  The retailer who sells the jackpot-winning ticket will receive a bonus of $1 million, which is the largest bonus a retailer can receive.  The largest Lottery jackpot ever won was a MEGA Millions jackpot on March 30, 2012 and the jackpot was $656 million with a cash option of $474 million.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 96 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
