Still Outstanding – $2.6 Million Winning Lottery Ticket Sold in San Diego County!

SACRAMENTO – People play the Lottery hoping to win money. Well, someone won $2.6 million on a Mega Millions® ticket sold in San Diego County two months ago, but this ticket remains unclaimed.

Of course, you ask, “Why hasn’t the winner come forward?” If we knew, we wouldn’t be sending out this reminder message. It could be that he or she still has the ticket stashed in a drawer and simply hasn’t checked it. We’ve heard that before. Or, perhaps the winner is getting his/her financial affairs in order before claiming that colossal prize. Anything is possible, but we want to make every effort to connect winners with prize money that is rightfully theirs.

The ticket was sold prior to the Mega Millions draw that electrified the nation on December 17; the one with the revised $648 million jackpot. The ticket we are looking for missed the jackpot by just one number, the Mega number. However, it did successfully match five numbers, enough to make this winner a multi-millionaire. The prize was $2,621,916 to be exact.

This ticket was sold at Square Bottle Liquor, which is located at 21 Naples Street in Chula Vista. It successfully matched the numbers 8, 20, 14, 17 and 39, missing only the Mega number 7. The winner has 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. Regardless of whether anyone ever brings that ticket in, the store’s ownership (pictured below) will receive a retailer bonus of one half of one percent of the prize amount, or around $13,000, for selling a prize-winning draw ticket of more than $1 million.

You’ll remember there was another ticket sold in San Diego County that also matched five numbers that night. Two women had purchased that ticket together and claimed their shared prize in January.

California’s biggest winner that night has also claimed his prize. Steve Tran bought a ticket in San Jose that hit the jackpot. He split the top prize with another jackpot winner in Georgia.

If you do discover that you have a big win, we strongly encourage Lottery players to immediately SIGN THE BACK OF THEIR TICKETS IN INK and claim their prize at the nearest California Lottery District Office location. The one closest to where this ticket was sold is the San Diego District Office, which is located at 5656 Ruffin Road in San Diego. The office phone number is (858) 492-1700.

IF this ticket is never claimed, the unclaimed prize money will go to support California public schools. More than $22 million went unclaimed in California during the last fiscal year.

And don’t forget – tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot draw is worth a life-changing $154 million!
