Many More Claim Mega Millions® Prize Money
SACRAMENTO – It has been a few days, but we are now finding out who holds many more of the tickets that matched five numbers in the historic $656 million MEGA Millions draw on March 30, 2012. Each winning ticket claims a prize worth $227,955.
Carlos Mendez of San Rafael said he had been too swamped at his job as a server at an Italian restaurant to check his ticket. Mendez saw news stories about the unclaimed ticket and said he was happy that someone in his area had won. “I thought they were lucky,” said Mendez, not realizing until yesterday, that “lucky” person was him. Mendez purchased his winning ticket at Al’s Food & Liquor, which is located at 36 Medway Road in San Rafael (Marin County).
Arnel “Art” Antonio of Los Angeles County came into the Lottery’s Van Nuys District Office to claim his $227,955 MEGA Millions prize. The regular lottery player says his winnings represent what he lost in retirement investments over the past two to three years. “In that regard I’m no different than anybody else, I guess,” Antonio said. A grateful Antonio says he’ll share some of his winnings with his family. He purchased his winning ticket at Grandview Liquor, which is located at 12203 Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Jeanne and Mike Nicholson of Kirkland, Washington were visiting their daughter in Southern California when they became winners. “Everyone was talking about how big the jackpot was,” Jeanne said, revealing why she stopped at Canyon Liquor, which is located at 16507 Soledad Canyon Road #H in Canyon Country (Los Angeles County) to buy lottery tickets. The semi-retired couple said they may use the money to help purchase a home in Phoenix or Las Vegas.
These three tickets were part of 29 all across California that successfully matched the numbers 46, 23, 38, 4 and 2, and missed only the Mega number of 23.
The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.
