A Lucky Streak for Lottery Players from Gardena

Sacramento - The city of Gardena has had two top prize winners in the last week in games other than SuperLotto.

Lottery officials announced January 29, 2000, the Big Spin® 2000 show's first grand prize winner of the Extravaganza 2000 game is Calvin Duncan. Duncan will receive $2,000 a week for the next twenty years, totaling more than $2 million (before taxes). "My brother came over late Saturday night to tell me people were calling him because they saw my name on TV," explained Duncan. "And then when I got to work today, people were coming out of the woodwork to shake my hand but I didn't completely believe it until I got to the Lottery's office, now I believe it."

Duncan will receive a check for $2,000 (before taxes) a week for the next twenty years, his after tax amount will be about $1,400 a week. Duncan plans on retiring from Honeywell where he has been an airplane planner for more than twenty years with his prize.

The California Lottery's Daily Derby was also recently won with a ticket bought in Gardena. On January 24, 2000, a ticket bought at Gene's Liquors in Gardena won the Daily Derby grand prize of $812,813. That ticket has yet to be claimed.
