New Millionaire Plans to Put Mom First
L.A. County Winner Scores Big With Lottery’s Newest $20 Game!
SACRAMENTO – What would you do if you won the lottery? It’s a question many Californians have asked themselves, including Jose Aguayo. But for Aguayo it actually happened – he won the lottery! And this good son answered that question without hesitation. He’s going to help his mother with some of his $1 million prize, won from a Million $$ Match Scratchers® ticket he purchased in West Covina.
“I think that was her one dream, to basically be debt free. And that’s what I’m going to do,” said Aguayo. “I told her not to worry. She’s not going to have to worry.”
The 28-year-old always knew he’d put his mom first if he ever hit it big. He actually made that promise to her one day while the two were playing Scratchers, as they often do. “I think anybody would do that for their mother.”
Aguayo bought his lucky ticket while grabbing a bite to eat at a Chevron gas station. He says he usually buys the $5 or $10 tickets, but something about the $20 ticket felt different. “It was a new game and it was just staring at me. I just thought I’d take a whack at it.” Yet, he hesitated. That’s because the next ticket in the pack was number 13 and Aguayo admits he’s not a fan of odd numbers. After thinking it over, he decided to give it a shot and immediately started scratching the ticket in his car.
“I kept looking at the ticket over and over again. For a second there, my mind went blank. I didn’t do anything except sit there and think about it for a little bit, until it finally made sense.”
So, what will Aguayo do after helping his mom? He plans to pay off some school loans and other debt. Then he’d like to get a sports car, but nothing too flashy. “I’ve always loved the old Mustangs and so I really want a Mustang. Maybe (I’ll) make it a project car or something.”
The winning doesn’t stop with Aguayo. The owner of Eastland Chevron will receive a retailer bonus of $5,000 for selling the winning ticket. That store is located at 246 N. Citrus Street in West Covina (Los Angeles County).
