MEDIA ADVISORY - State And Local Officials Honor Riverside Couple Receiving Lottery Winnings

Share:

SACRAMENTO, December 20, 2004 – The recent winners of the California Lottery’s SuperLotto Plus jackpot of $27 million, Debra and Steve Cifelli will be presented with their winnings on Tuesday, December 21, 2004. The Cifellis, who are nationally renowned for their community service will be recognized by state and local officials as they receive their winnings. The presentation will take place at the Party Pantry, 34610 Yucaipa Blvd. in Yucaipa, California.

The Cifellis, who opted for the cash option, will be presented with a check from the California Lottery for $10,871,527.64 (after federal withholding). The local Lottery retailer, Party Pantry, will be awarded with a retailer bonus of $135,000 for selling the winning ticket. Recognizing the Cifellis will be Senator Robert Dutton (District 31), Assembly Member Bill Emerson (District 63), Yucaipa Mayor Dick Riddell, and California Lottery Commissioner Rachel Montes.

“With perfect timing for the holidays, the Lottery is honored to welcome the Cifellis as California’s newest millionaires,” said Chon Gutierrez, Interim Director, California Lottery. “The Cifellis represent many of the Lottery players who through their generosity and goodwill make positive differences in their communities.”

Not only did the Cifellis and their charities benefit from this prize, but California’s public schools received $17 million from sales associated with this jackpot. In fiscal year 2003-04 the Lottery contributed over $1 billion to public education, for a fourth consecutive year.
