Man Describes Impact of Fantasy 5 Win in San Diego

SACRAMENTO – “Somebody or something finally must have realized what my life was going through and decided it was my turn,” Ken Chasteene said. The 52-year-old matched all five numbers in the Fantasy 5 drawing on September 19 to win $186,031! Money like that can have a huge impact on someone’s life, and according to Ken it already has.

He told us he’s a cabinet maker by trade and hasn’t been able to find steady work for a long time. “The occupation that I have, the industry collapsed. Imagine how it feels to be one step away from losing everything,” said Ken about the stress he’s been experiencing, which thanks to this win is at least starting to fade away. “This has to take me as far as I will let it take me…I can pay off my car and a couple of other things. Get that gigantic monkey off my back.”

Ken said he used what he thought was his only five dollar bill to buy bread and milk that Thursday, but when he dug into his pocket, he discovered another five. He used it to splurge on a Lottery ticket, playing his favorite numbers. Only this time, those numbers matched the ones that were drawn – 6, 21, 3, 7 and 31. Considering the way he’s been living, this Lottery winner says claiming a windfall is surreal! “Finding a penny on the ground, I dive for it. I’ve been learning how to penny pinch. I’m still trying to pinch myself at this point!” revealed Ken, determined not to take any of his good fortune for granted. “It was just my turn or divine intervention? I don’t want to speculate, but whatever it was, I am so thankful.”

Ken purchased his ticket at Par Liquor, which is located at 5181 Waring Road in San Diego. The retailer will receive a bonus of one half percent of the prize amount, or $930, for selling the winning ticket. A second ticket sold in Salinas (Monterey County) also matched five numbers to score a similar prize amount. It has not been claimed.

If you check your tickets and discover that you have a big win, the California Lottery reminds you to sign the back of your tickets, keep them in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit your local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.

Fantasy 5 offers some of the best odds of any California Lottery game. A player wins the Fantasy 5 jackpot simply by matching five numbers out of a field of 39. Winning numbers are drawn every day. The top prize starts at $50,000 and increases daily until it is hit. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers.

And be sure to participate in the California Lottery’s Fantasy 5 Bonus Bucks promotion. For every purchase of $5 or more of Fantasy 5 on a single ticket you will automatically receive a Fantasy 5 Bonus Bucks code. Enter the code at https://secondchance.calottery.com/second-chance/index/index/type/FANTASY5/ to participate in weekly draws for a chance to win cash prizes up to $10,000.
