Second Big MEGA Millions® Prize Winner Revealed

Share:

SACRAMENTO – We now know who was holding the second big winning ticket from Friday night’s MEGA Millions draw. Minerva Gonzalez arrived at the California Lottery’s Santa Ana District office this afternoon and claimed her prize. Hers was one of two tickets sold in the Los Angeles area that matched five numbers in the draw. They split a prize of $781,714, or a walloping $390,857 a piece!

Minerva said she had a feeling about this one. She often picks her own numbers using birthdays or other special dates, but this time her gut told her to pick, as she put it, “whatever felt good.” She trusted her instincts and it worked! Her ticket matched the numbers 40, 47, 48, 31 and 41, missing only the Mega number of 45.

Once she scanned her ticket she mistakenly believed she had won $390. “We were so happy! We felt we were lucky,” said Minerva. Imagine how thrilled she was when she went online and discovered that she had actually scored hundreds of thousands more! Minerva tells us it was a thrilling moment, one she always hoped might happen. “The hope was there. It’s good to dream about it,” said Minerva, who is now focusing on another dream. “I think I’m gonna put a down payment on a house.”

Minerva’s ticket was purchased at Nady’s Market, which is located at 25222 Charlinda Drive #A in Mission Viejo (Orange County). The other winning ticket was sold at Sherman Oaks Chevron located at 14505 Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks (Los Angeles County). That ticket was claimed yesterday.

Minerva plans to keep playing Lottery. “I’m going for the big one!” she said with a laugh. What about you? Do you have your ticket yet? The jackpot for Friday night’s MEGA Millions draw has soared to $105 million. The cash value is an estimated $81 million.

The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have a year from the date of the MEGA Millions draw to claim jackpot prizes, but only 180 days from the date of the draw to claim all other prizes.

MEGA Millions is a multistate game, played in California and 43 other jurisdictions (41 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Players pick five numbers from 1 to 56 plus a Mega number from 1 to 46. Draw times are Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s MEGA Millions site for more information.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities.
