$7 Million Powerball® Ticket Claimed!

Share:

SACRAMENTO – Joseph Rosas did not win the $90 million Powerball jackpot last Saturday night, but he did win a record-setting prize. Rosas won the largest prize for a ticket matching five numbers in California Lottery history for all draw games (Powerball, Mega Millions® and SuperLotto Plus®). Rosas’ ticket correctly matched five out of six numbers for the August 9 drawing, missing just the Powerball, earning him an astounding $7,660,254!

The winning ticket was purchased at the Speedi Mart, which is located at 975 North Aviation Boulevard in Manhattan Beach (Los Angeles County). The Speedi Mart is a big winner as well, picking up a bonus of $38,301.27, or one half of one percent of the winning amount just for selling the winning ticket.

While Rosas wants to remain low key about what he plans to do with his new fortune, the record- setting win had people buzzing at Lottery offices across the state. “Typical five of six wins pay out from a range of a few hundred thousand dollars to a previous high of more than three million dollars won a while back in Los Angeles,” said David Kauls, manager of the Lottery’s Santa Fe Springs District Office.

The last time someone won five numbers without the Powerball was back on May 17 of this year.

Powerball is a multistate game played in California (and 42 other states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Draw times are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:59 p.m. PST. Tickets sales are suspended from 7:00 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. the day of the draw. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers or one of the more than 4,000 Lottery Lucky Retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s Powerball site for more information on how to play.

The California Lottery is a $5 billion enterprise based in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars. Its mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. In FY 2013-14, the Lottery created 89 new millionaires. More than 95 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
