Central Valley Man Fields Dreams Following $3.25 Million Lottery Win

SACRAMENTO – A new car. A new house? Those are all things you expect to hear from someone describing their plans after winning the Lottery. However, Salvador Marquez sees even bigger things in his family’s future following his surprise win.

Marquez hit the top prize on a $5 California Lucky for Life Scratchers® ticket he purchased at a gas station in Fresno County. That’s $3.25 million! Marquez will have the option of selecting a lump sum payment of $1.9 million or weekly payments of $2,500 a week for 25 years. Either way, his newfound wealth is automatically exposing a wealth of opportunity that simply wasn’t there earlier.

You see, Marquez is a field worker. He has been for 25 years, helping to spray the fields and monitoring irrigation. Marquez says one thing is for sure: “I never thought I would win the Lottery.”

Marquez also never thought he would be able to help his son pay for college. Thanks to this Lottery win, that’s all changed. “My dad told me that I’m off to college,” said the younger Salvador Marquez. The high school senior said he fully expected to go to college, sharing and expanding on his father’s love of the land by possibly studying agricultural engineering. He also expected a much more difficult path toward achieving his goals. “I was gonna be in debt, lots of student loans,” said Salvador. He’s 18 years old, but can appreciate the magnitude of the situation. “It opens doors for me too. Now I can have a good job.”

The family still can’t believe it. Not even Marquez’s wife Maria, or the couple’s younger daughter. “It makes me feel real happy,” said Marquez, who you might just say, is having a field day simply dreaming about the possibilities.

There’s even more good news. Marquez purchased his winning California Lucky for Life Scratchers ticket at Shop N Go, which is located at 38440 Highway 99 in Kingsburg (Fresno County). The lucky retailer will receive a bonus of $16,250 just for selling the winning ticket.

The California Lucky for Life Scratchers family is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for education.
