Mariposa County Road Worker Gets “Life” and is Happy About it!

kirk perrien 440

SACRAMENTO – Kirk Perrien is an avid Lottery player who knows how to play all the games. He and his co-workers at the Mariposa County Road Department love to play Scratchers® and do it almost every day they work. In fact, when Perrien uncovered the word, “LIFE” on the California Lucky for Life Scratchers ticket, he knew right away he had to call his colleague who he had worked with every day for the past five years. I called him and simply said, “I got ‘LIFE’,” he explained. When it was pointed out that that usually means something very different, Perrien laughed and said, “Oh no, he knew exactly what I meant!”

Perrien was off work that day and sitting next to his wife when he won the $1.3 million top prize, but she didn’t believe him until they walked into the California Lottery’s Central Valley District Office and got official confirmation. “We had to go and get our car repaired and it was $6,000, so we picked it up and went back to the retailer to check the ticket; then we had a pretty good idea we were winners, but she was still skeptical!” As soon as he called his co-workers, they came to his house to celebrate.

Perrien plans to pay off their house and start his own business delivering water to the local community. His wife, who is a self-proclaimed “horse person”, wants to fence their property so the four rescued horses they have can roam free. “She just rescued one yesterday who is pretty bad off, but we’ll see what we can do for her,” he said. Mrs. Perrien added, “I didn’t know how to care for her but now we can. I believe where there’s life, there’s hope.” Kirk Perrien added, “So along with our seven rescued dogs, and our chickens and geese, we have quite the ranch/farm going.”

Perrien purchased his California Lucky for Life Scratchers ticket at Soares Bootjack Market, which is located at 3939 Bootjack Lane in Bootjack (Mariposa County). Perrien won $1,000 per week for the next 25 years but instead of taking the payments, he took the cash option and will receive $750,000 in a lump sum payment.

The California Lucky for Life Scratchers family is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for education. If you match any of your numbers to any of the winning numbers you uncover when you scratch the ticket, then you win that prize. If you uncover a money bag symbol, you automatically win the prize associated with it. And, if you uncover a “LIFE” symbol, you win the top prize for that game – a prize paid out weekly over the course of 25 years, or available as a lump sum amount. As you move up in price from $1 to $10, you have more chances to win and the potential prizes just keep getting higher.

The winning doesn’t stop there – like all Lottery Scratchers games, the California Lucky for Life games come with second chances to win the top prizes. Just subscribe to our 2nd Chance Program and submit any non-winning California Lucky for Life Scratchers ticket code for a chance to win.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 96 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
