Hunting Trip Ends With $250,000 Lottery Prize

SACRAMENTO – Jose Guerra had already had a pretty solid day. He had gone hunting and had a fun day with his friends. Then, on the way home, the group stopped off to grab drinks at the local market. It was here that Guerra purchased two of the California Lottery Black Scratchers® tickets.

Guerra offered one to a friend and kept the other for himself. The next day while he was cleaning his truck, he saw the ticket and decided to scratch it off. “As I was scratching it, I thought I won $25, then $250, and then I thought ‘that’s too many zeroes,’” Guerra said in describing his winning moment. Actually, it was just the right amount of zeroes, as he won the $250,000 top prize!

A veteran Lottery player, Guerra said the prize was by far the biggest he’d ever won. He said before he showed his wife of 30 years the winning ticket, he told her “you’re going to have the best Christmas ever this year.” He said he plans to take her on a dream vacation.

Guerra purchased his winning ticket at Central Mart, which is located at 1498 South Towne Avenue in Pomona (Los Angeles County).

The California Lottery Black Scratchers ticket is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for education. The oversized ticket features an almost all black motif and, in total, offers 20 top prizes of $250,000. To play, match any of your numbers to any of the four winning numbers and win that prize. Uncover a 10X symbol and you’ll automatically win 10 times that prize. Uncover a win symbol and win all 18 prizes automatically! Overall game odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.76. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1.2 million.
