JACKPOT ADVISORY -- CALIFORNIA LOTTERY JACKPOT LARGEST IN THE NATION! $75 MILLION JACKPOT SALES HEAT-UP!
SACRAMENTO, August 23, 2004 -- California Lottery officials announced Wednesday’s SuperLotto Plus jackpot has increased to $75 million with tickets selling briskly. “It’s exciting to offer California Lottery players the largest jackpot in the nation and the second largest jackpot for the California Lottery in 2004,” said Dennis Sequeira, California State Lottery’s Interim Director. Not since January, when Pamela Bazan from Los Alamitos won $88 million, has the jackpot risen to this level. Bazan could not be reached for comment as she spends her summer jet-setting to exotic destinations.
California education and businesses win too. A retailer who sells a single winning $75 million ticket would receive a $375,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket and California's public schools will receive more than $46 million from the draw sales associated with this jackpot.
A single jackpot winner of $75 million who chooses the 26 graduated annual payments would receive approximately $1,875,000 the first year and those payments would graduate to $3,825,000 by the 26th year (before taxes). A single jackpot winner who chooses the cash option would receive the estimated cash value which is roughly half the announced jackpot or $37.5 million (before a 25% federal withholding).
SuperLotto Plus can be played at approximately 18,000 retail business establishments statewide. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players can purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
