Only One Week to Go for Winning MEGA Millions® Ticket from Record-Setting March 30 Draw
$227,000 Ticket Sold in San Francisco will expire September 26
SACRAMENTO – Nearly six months ago today people around the nation were lined up around the block, anxiously waiting to buy a MEGA Millions ticket at their favorite retail location. It was a national frenzy due to the world-record $656 million prize. Maybe during that frenzy, one winner misplaced their ticket worth a cool $227,955.
To recap – shortly after the draw occurred on March 30, we discovered that 29 lucky Californians matched five of six numbers to win prizes worth $227,955. Since that time, 28 of those winners have come forward to claim their cash. Only one prize remains, and the owner of that winning ticket has only a week left before their ticket expires and they lose their claim forever.
The winning ticket successfully matched the numbers 46, 23, 38, 4 and 2, missing only the Mega number of 23. The unclaimed ticket was sold at Fox Liquors, which is located at 570 Larkin Street in San Francisco.
A ticket that was sold in Hollywood for the March 30 draw was claimed by mail earlier this week.
The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes. These tickets will expire at close of business on September 26, 2012. The unclaimed funds will be transferred to California schools.
The California Lottery has instituted a new policy to help identify winners of unclaimed prizes worth more than $250,000 by publishing photos of winners shortly before their tickets are scheduled to expire. However, the two wins above are dated well before the policy was adopted, therefore no photos are available of the two winners.
