Thank Heavens! Retiree wins $1 Million in Oakland

SACRAMENTO – Maria Moreno may be retired, but she stays pretty busy. She works part-time and is active in her church, even traveling around the world with fellow members. With that said, she doesn’t have time to wait around. That’s why she chooses to play Scratchers® over draw games. “I like winning immediately,” she said about her gameplay decision – a decision that has paid off! Moreno is now $1 million richer after buying a California Black Exclusive Scratchers ticket in Oakland.

“I win! I win! I win!” was all the 64-year-old could muster after scratching the ticket. Her brother was with her at the time and asked how much she’d won. Moreno was so excited she said, “I don’t know, but there are a lot of zeroes!” Six zeroes to be exact – making it the largest amount Moreno has ever won playing Scratchers.

So what will Moreno do with her big prize? She plans to pay off her house and set some money aside for her granddaughter’s education. But that’s not all, “I want to go to Portugal.” It seems this busy world traveler isn’t stopping anytime soon.

Neither is the winning. A & A Corner Grocery, the retailer that sold Moreno that million dollar ticket, will received a bonus of $5,000. That store is located at 2520 Foothill Boulevard in Oakland (Alameda County).
