Nearly Running Out of Gas Makes Bay Area Man Rich!

Fremont Dad Lucks into $1.3 Million California Lucky for Life Scratchers® Win

SACRAMENTO – Gaurav Sharma’s eight-year old son noticed the warning light on the family car’s fuel gauge, and reminded his dad they were driving on fumes. So they pulled into a gas station and filled up. “Usually I get the receipt (for my gas) at the pump, but somehow, this one said, ‘see attendant inside,’” Sharma explained.

It was the short and unexpected walk into the convenience store which transformed this Fremont realtor into a millionaire. “I had to go in and get my receipt,” Sharma replied. “I saw the last two dollars in my wallet and bought the (California) Lucky for Life (Scratchers ticket). I had no intention of buying a Lottery ticket!” Good thing he did. He’s won $1,000 per week for the next 25 years. Think that’s a nice payday? You do the math – it comes out to a thrilling $1.3 million in cash.

The 34-year old father decided to scratch his ticket right away and learned pretty quickly he made the right call to buy the ticket. “The first scratch, (the first box) just said ‘LIFE’, and my life is set now!” Sharma laughed. Just think – had he gotten his gas receipt at the pump instead of needing to go inside because of an issue with the printer, he would have driven home with just a full tank of unleaded (and an empty wallet!).

Sharma purchased his California Lucky for Life Scratchers ticket at his neighborhood Circle K, which is located at 34867 Ardenwood Blvd. in Fremont (Alameda County). He’s chosen the annuity option, and says he looks forward to receiving an extra $1,000 per week in income until the year 2038!

The California Lucky for Life Scratchers family is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for education. If you match any of your numbers to any of the winning numbers you uncover when you scratch the ticket, then you win that prize. If you uncover a money bag symbol, you automatically win the prize associated with it. And, if you uncover a LIFE symbol, you win the top prize for that game – a prize paid out weekly over the course of 25 years, or available as a lump sum amount. As you move up in price from $1 to $10, you have more chances to win and the potential prizes just keep getting higher.
The winning doesn’t stop there – like all Lottery Scratchers games, the California Lucky for Life games come with second chances to win the top prizes. Just subscribe to our 2nd Chance Program and submit any non-winning California Lucky for Life Scratchers ticket code for a chance to win.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities.
