Orange County Man Checks Box of Tickets, Finds MEGA Millions® Ticket Worth Over $600,000!

Share:

Ami Chand 440

SACRAMENTO – Ami Chand has a very disciplined approach to playing the Lottery. Every week, twice a week, he spends $5 at his local retail spot. With that money he buys $2 worth of MEGA Millions tickets, $2 worth of SuperLotto Plus® tickets, and $1 on a Fantasy 5 ticket. On February 26, one of his MEGA Millions tickets turned out to be a big winner.

But Ami only recently discovered that. In fact, he came into the Lottery’s Santa Ana District Office late Friday, minutes before the doors closed, to claim his prize for matching five of six numbers – a hefty $630,786. He only found out about his win hours before.

He purchased his winning ticket at Gonzales Liquor Market, which located at 1845 West Katella Avenue in Anaheim (Orange County). The ticket successfully matched the numbers 6, 7, 13, 43 and 15, missing only the Mega number of 7.

Chand says after he buys his tickets, he puts them into a box he checks every so often, maybe once a month. He was at home on Friday checking winning numbers on www.calottery.com when he noticed he had matched five of six. Then he got excited…and asked his kids to double-check his ticket for him. “I was very happy to see that I was the only five of six winner,” he said, noting that the prize amount was much larger than he expected.

Chand was laid off from his job about two years ago and has only been working part-time, so the win couldn’t come at a better time for him and his family. “This is going to relieve my stress,” he said. He plans to pay off his bills and his house and also set aside college money for his 13 and 18 year-old children.

The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.

MEGA Millions is a multistate game, played in California and 43 other jurisdictions (41 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Players pick five numbers from 1 to 56 plus a Mega number from 1 to 46. Draw times are Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s MEGA Millions site for more information.

And remember, checking the daily draw results is easier than ever. All past and current Lottery draw results can be obtained for FREE by dialing 1-800-LOTTERY and selecting option 2, or via our website at www.calottery.com.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 96 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
