SUPERLotto PLUS JACKPOT ROLLS TO $46 MILLION
SACRAMENTO, February 1, 2002 -- Lottery officials announced the estimated SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Saturday night's draw at $46 million. "It's the first mega jackpot of the new year", said Director Joan Wilson. "I am excited that we can kick-off 2002 with $46 million boosting our contribution to the state's public schools by about $27.78 million."
A single jackpot winner of $46 million who chooses the 26 graduated annual payments would receive approximately $1,150,000 the first year and $2,346,000 the 26th year (before taxes). A single jackpot winner who chooses the cash option would receive the estimated cash value which is roughly half the announced jackpot or $23 million (before federal withholding).
On June 23, 2001 the largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $141 million and was won by a single winning ticket. Alcario Castellano of San Jose, California became the record-breaking highest individual jackpot winner of $141 million on June 23, 2001. On April 17, 1991, the second largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $118.8 million and was won by 10 winning tickets and 54 winners. On April 8, 1998, the third largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $104 million and was won by 3 winning tickets and 24 winners.
SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
