Tonight’s Mega Millions® Jackpot Draw Pushing Nearly Half a Billion Dollars!
$400 Million Prize Would be the Second-Largest California Jackpot of All Time
SACRAMENTO – Sure, it may no longer be St. Patrick’s Day; but one (or even more) California Lottery players could still be experiencing a whole lot of green if someone hits tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot. That’s because the prize is worth a whopping $400 million! The estimated cash option is a life-changing $224.8 million.
This is now the 3rd largest Mega Millions jackpot of all time and the 7th largest U.S. jackpot ever. If someone in our state wins, the $400 million prize would also become the 2nd largest jackpot in California history.
Don’t forget on 12/17/13 (almost three months ago to the day!) one of two winning Mega Millions tickets was sold in San Jose (Santa Clara County). Steve Tran split the massive $648 million jackpot with another winner in Atlanta, Georgia. They received $324 million each.
Odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 259 million. Overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 15. Also, the retailer location that sells the winning ticket will receive a bonus of $1 million!
Mega Millions is played in California (and 42 other states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Draw times are Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased until 7:45 p.m. the day of the draw from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s Mega Millions site for more information on how to play.
As jackpots rise, the California Lottery would like to remind players that gambling should be fun. Borrowing money to play, spending above a person’s budget or using money intended for other purposes can ultimately lead to significant problems for players and their families. If a player recognizes that they have a gambling problem or if someone knows of someone who may have a problem, the Lottery recommends calling the Problem Gambling Help Line at 1-800-GAMBLER.
The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 95 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
