Anaheim Custodian Claims $278,708 Fantasy 5 Jackpot

SACRAMENTO – A lucky California Lottery player in Anaheim today came into the Lottery’s Santa Ana District Office to claim a Fantasy 5 jackpot worth $278,708.

And while it’s not uncommon for Lottery players to win large prizes, it isn’t every day that their local retailer predicts that they’re the big winner. But that’s exactly what happened to Jaime Baltierra, a custodian from Anaheim.

Two days after he matched all five numbers in the August 25 Fantasy 5 draw, he went into the Lottery retail location where he purchases his tickets - Arco Anaheim Resort Center, which is located at 1037 West Ball Road – to get a print-out of the winning numbers. When he walked in the door, the clerk took one look at him at said “you’re the one that won.” To that Baltierra replied “what are you talking about?” before collecting the winning numbers for that draw – 37, 16, 12, 15 and 29 – and heading home to check his ticket.

When he got home and grabbed his ticket, the very first line had all five numbers on it and he dropped to his knees “to thank God,” he said.

Right now, Baltierra plans to put the money away for the future.

Fantasy 5 offers some of the best odds of any California Lottery game. A player wins the Fantasy 5 jackpot simply by matching five numbers out of a field of 39. Winning numbers are drawn every day. The top prize starts at $50,000 and increases daily until it is hit. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers.

The California Lottery is celebrating 25 years of enhancing education and supporting local communities. More than 94 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail commissions. Since 2000, Lottery players have contributed $1 billion to public schools each year and since we began in 1985, Lottery players have contributed more than $22 billion to education.
