Persistency Pays Off For L.A. Man Who Wins $500,000
Retired State Worker Scratches Away Half a Million Dollars on a $15 Investment!
SACRAMENTO – Herbert Eslit wasn’t exactly sweating bullets when he got to the very bottom of his $500,000 Riches Scratchers® card. However, he was slightly apprehensive after so many times of trying to win a big prize but coming up short. “I scratched all the way to the end and I said, ‘oh no, there’s nothing on this.’ But the last one on the left side when I scratched it, I said ‘what…did I win?!’” laughed the 68-year old Los Angeles grandfather.
He sure did! After scratching away the first 18 of 20 boxes on his ticket (see copy of ticket below) – to his amazement as he scratched away the 19th box, with only one try left – he saw in bold letters: “500,000”. “I didn’t even believe it until I showed the cashier and he said, ‘oh you won the $500,000 man!’” Eslit explained.
The retired state worker had been trying for the longest time to win a big prize playing $500,000 Riches, but the amount he’d previously won ($500) had considerably fewer zeroes! “I was still encouraged to buy more tickets, so this time I said, ‘ok.’ I bought three tickets for 15 bucks,” Eslit said. That persistency finally paid off this week in the form of the game’s top prize.
Eslit bought his winning ticket on October 14 at King’s Donuts, which is located at 4417 Eagle Rock Boulevard in Los Angeles. “Thank God, I can pay my mortgage now,” Eslit added with a chuckle. “It’s awesome!”
