CALIFORNIA'S RECORD JACKPOT OF $193 MILLION WON IN ORANGE, MONTEBELLO, HALF MOON BAY
SACRAMENTO, February 17, 2002 --Lottery officials announced that three winning tickets purchased in Orange, Montebello and Half Moon Bay, California won Saturday's record-breaking $193 million jackpot drawn on February 16, 2002. The lucky numbers drawn for February 16, 2002 were 6, 11, 31, 32, 39 MEGA 20. The winning numbers were held by a three winning tickets sold in Half Moon Bay at Albertsons, 150 San Mateo Road; a 7-Eleven Store in Montebello, 1106 W Beverly Blvd.; and a 7-Eleven Store in Orange, 290 South Main Street. Each retailer will receive $321,666 or one half of one percent of the jackpot share.
Each ticket is worth approximately $64.3 million. The cash value of each ticket equals roughly half of the jackpot share, $32.1 million or the amount the Lottery would invest to payout the jackpot prize over 26 years. The odds of winning any jackpot are one in 41 million. Each of the three tickets paid out over a 26 year period would begin with a first year annual payment of $1.6 million and will graduate to $3.2 million by the 26th year.
More than 4,241,717 million tickets won a prize in Saturday's record-breaking drawing for the $193 million jackpot. Fifty-six tickets won the second prize category of $27,859 for matching 5 numbers. There were 496 tickets that won $1,572 by matching four numbers plus the MEGA number. Other prize categories included the following:
- 12,659 tickets matched four numbers for a prize of $102.
- 19,714 tickets matched three numbers plus the MEGA number for a prize of $59;
- 539,234 tickets matched three numbers for a prize of $10;
- 272,735 tickets matched two numbers plus the MEGA number for a prize of $11;
- 1,350,065 tickets matched one number plus the MEGA number for a prize of $2;
- 2,046,758 tickets matched the MEGA number for $1.
Sales from this jackpot of $193 million translate to an additional $112 million for public schools. On June 23, 2001, the second largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $141 and was won by a single ticket. Alcario Castellano of San Jose, California became the record-breaking highest individual jackpot winner of $141 million. On April 17, 1991, the third largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $118.8 million and was won by 10 winning tickets and 54 winners. SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
