Daughter Butters Up Mom – Orange County Family Walks Out of Store With $650,000 Win!
SACRAMENTO – Walking past the dairy section at the local market will probably always bring back rich memories (so to speak) for Lisa Smith. The Orange County mom says she stopped by the grocery store after work last week to buy some butter. Well that butter run paid off with a $650,000 win after Smith decided to splurge on a $1 Lucky Life Scratchers® ticket!
“I don’t know what possessed me, but I think it’s because my daughter got me hooked on Scratchers,” chuckled Smith. “She’s like ‘oh mommy, just buy a Scratchers. You never know!’ I was just standing there (in line) and I was ‘oh what the heck.’ It was just a total fluke that I picked it up!”
The funny thing is Smith admits she didn’t even know what she was doing, and had no idea she’d won big bucks. “I don’t even know how to play the Scratchers! I just scratched it. I had no clue, and then I told the girl (cashier) I didn’t know if I won anything. And she was like, ‘Oh my God, you totally won!’”
Smith will receive $500 per week for the next 25 years, or $375,000 in cash if she chooses to take the lump sum amount. She purchased her ticket at Stater Bros Markets, located at 18527 Yorba Linda Boulevard in Yorba Linda (Orange County). Smith wishes to remain anonymous, so no photo unfortunately.
As for what Smith plans on doing with her newfound fortune: “Well, the typical American fashion is pay off debt!” She also plans on setting up college funds for her two kids. In the meantime, she plans on trying to come out of her daze! “I’ve never won anything before. Well, nothing like this! Not until I see the check in my greedy hands will I believe it,” Smith added with a hearty laugh.
