Texas Transplant Wins $250,000 Scratchers® Prize
SACRAMENTO – They say everything’s bigger in Texas. While that may be true in some cases, Armando Trevino never won a Lottery prize in Texas anywhere near the $250,000 he recently won from California’s latest Scratchers game – California Lottery Black. Maybe the saying should be, “Everything’s bigger in California!”
Trevino, who now resides in Southern California, hit the top prize in the California Lottery Black game late last week. Today, he came into the Lottery’s Van Nuys District Office to claim his prize.
He purchased his ticket at the 7-Eleven located at 5570 Cahuenga Boulevard in North Hollywood (Los Angeles County) on Thursday morning. He told us that he usually waits until he gets home so he can scratch his tickets with his wife. When Trevino scratched the ticket he was sure he had won a free play. Then, he looked closer. “Am I blind?” he asked his wife in disbelief upon seeing he had won the game’s top prize.
Trevino said he was practically hyperventilating and that his wife’s reaction to the win was simple: “That’s awesome!” she said.
Trevino, who works for AT&T, said that he put the winning ticket under his mattress for safe-keeping while he went back to Texas last weekend to see one of his sons graduate from school. He says he plans to give each of his kids a little money for either a down payment on a house or car, he plans to buy his wife a new car, and he eventually hopes to buy himself a fishing boat.
And he plans to keep playing Lottery games, advising his fellow enthusiasts, “You can’t win if you don’t play!”
