Assembly member Sharon Runner Presents “Exceptional Educator” Award to Lancaster Teacher

Exceptional Educator FebSACRAMENTO – “The Big Spin®” show aired Saturday, February 12, 2005 and featured Jamie Goodreau of Lancaster who received the Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” award from Assemblymember Sharon Runner of Lancaster.

Jamie Goodreau is an outstanding U. S. History teacher at Lancaster High School in Lancaster. She is best known for her innovative and adventurous teaching style that brings students face to face with history. Her classroom motto states, “We are not just reading about history, we are experiencing history, and we are making history.”

Ms. Goodreau motivates and challenges her students by combining rigorous classroom instruction with an intensive schedule of guest speakers, field trips, and hands-on lessons including a year end project that requires students to apply what they’ve learned while giving back to the community. One such project involved an authentic 1940’s era hangar dance that raised $10,000 for the restoration of a WWII B-17 Bomber.

The California Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” Award has been presented on “The Big Spin®” television show since April of 2001. The Lottery enlists legislators and state officials to present these awards which recognize outstanding teachers whose extraordinary efforts help California students to succeed.
