Fortune Cookie Wins National City Man $153k Fantasy 5 Prize – 10 Years Later!
SACRAMENTO – Miguel Bernal should win the most persistent Lottery player award. Ten years ago he started playing a set of five numbers he got out of a fortune cookie and last night those numbers finally came up, winning him $153,681!
Bernal, an auto attendant at a Chevrolet dealership, claimed his Fantasy 5 prize this afternoon at the California Lottery’s San Diego District Office. He said he got the ticket as a routine purchase late yesterday afternoon from his local retailer.
“I went into the store last night and the clerk told me they had sold a winning ticket,” said Bernal. “They kept on telling me ‘It’s you!’ but I said ‘No way!’” Later that night Bernal’s son checked the Lottery’s website for the winning numbers and confirmed the win.
Bernal says he will use the prize to buy his college-aged daughter a new car. The rest he will put away and save for a rainy day.
The winning ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 2400 Highland Avenue in National City. The winning numbers are 5, 33, 21, 7 and 32.
Another Fantasy 5 ticket also matched all five numbers in last night’s draw and is worth $153,681. That ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 400 El Camino Real in Belmont. The ticket remains unclaimed.
