Small Business Owner Claims Powerball® Prize Worth Nearly $350,000
SACRAMENTO – On Wednesday night, one lucky California Lottery player came within one number of winning a Powerball jackpot worth $131 million. The prize for matching five of six? A sizeable $347,092. So naturally John Bradley wasted no time coming forward to claim his winnings from Wednesday night’s draw, arriving at Lottery offices yesterday.
Bradley is a small business owner of JNK Enterprises, a trucking and freight brokerage company. He told us it was quiet at work yesterday morning, so he started to check his tickets from recent Lottery draws. He checked his Mega and Powerball numbers first (because he noted they are easiest to check and you have to match those to win the jackpots) but none of them matched; so he put the tickets down and got some work done. Then, when it quieted down again, he went back to his tickets and checked the rest of the numbers. “That’s when I saw that the other five numbers on my Powerball ticket matched the other five winning numbers,” Bradley said. And what did he do next? “I screamed like a school girl!” he added.
Bradley plans on investing most of his winnings back into his business by buying more trucks. Oh, and he plans to get granite countertops for his home.
Bradley’s winning ticket matched the numbers 55, 2, 7, 1 and 9, but missed the Powerball number 29. He bought his ticket at the Circle K located at 16331 Lakeshore Drive in Lake Elsinore (Riverside County). No one won Wednesday night’s Powerball jackpot which means Saturday’s pot grows to $152 million!
The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their tickets, keep them in a safe place and visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.
Powerball is a multistate game played in California (and 42 other states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Draw times are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:59 p.m. PST.
