Assemblymember Ray Haynes Presents “Exceptional Educator” Award to Lake Elsinore Teacher

SACRAMENTO – “The Big Spin®” show aired Saturday, December 11, 2004 and featured Cindy Dickinson of Lake Elsinore who received the Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” Award from Assemblymember Ray Haynes.

Cindy Dickinson is an accomplished English teacher whose desire to shepherd students with special needs has led her to her current role as Principal at Ortega High and Valley Adult School in Lake Elsinore. Ms. Dickinson’s goal is to create so many educational “safety nets” so that no student could possibly fall through the cracks.

For students who struggle with the English language, Ms. Dickinson has created an outstanding adult English as a Second Language program that transcends language barriers. Her high school diploma and GED program empowers students to earn their certificates to get better jobs and seek higher learning. The teen pregnancy program provides the necessary childcare so that teen mothers can continue their education. The vocational program provides opportunities for students to connect with local professionals to help jump start their careers.

The California Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” Award has been presented on “The Big Spin®” television show since April of 2001. The Lottery enlists legislators and state officials to present these awards which recognize outstanding teachers whose extraordinary efforts help California students to succeed.
