Escondido Man Turns $5 Investment into a Pile of Dough
Latest San Diego County Winner Comes Forward to Cash in $280,000 Fantasy 5 Ticket
SACRAMENTO – Who doesn’t enjoy coming off of a nice three day holiday weekend? Well, if you were holding a lottery ticket worth more than a quarter of a million dollars – and you had to wait an extra 24 heart-pounding hours to cash it in – then you’d probably answer, “not so much.”
This was the case for an Escondido man, who found out Sunday he’d matched all five Fantasy 5 numbers (10-17-19-26-39) and won $280,047. However, since Lottery offices were closed yesterday for the Veterans Day holiday, Neurb Pek had to sweat it out until today to claim his fortune. “I was nervous, but mostly happy,” admitted the 58-year old winner. “I’ve never had this much money!”
A five dollar investment gave Pek five plays on his Fantasy 5 ticket. When he checked line “C”, he admits his mouth just about dropped open! “We went back to the store (where the ticket was purchased) to make sure. It didn’t seem true until we came to the (Lottery) office today! Then I thought it must be real,” added Pek.
It’s definitely real – we can vouch for him! The winning ticket was sold at G Market & Liquor, which is located at 577 S. Rancho Santa Fe Road #106 in San Marcos (San Diego County).
This marks the third time in a row a winning California Lottery draw game ticket has been purchased in San Diego County!
• This past Tuesday (Nov. 5), someone in Oceanside matched five of six numbers in the Mega Millions® draw and won $410,115.
• On October 25, a still unidentified player bought the winning Fantasy 5 ticket in Santee, and stands to walk away with $379,925.
Throw in Pek’s win, and you have three in a row. And if you want to get technical, the last three Fantasy 5 winning tickets in California have also all sold at retailers in San Diego County! (On October 21, another lucky San Diegan matched all five numbers and took home $186,783.)
The excitement isn’t dying down either! Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot has ballooned to a life-changing $132 million! We also have another Fantasy 5 draw this evening worth a potential $100,000. The question now is whether San Diegans can extend their impressive winning streak to four. We shall see!
