Taking Care of Cats Leads to $1 Million Scratchers® Ticket Win!

SACRAMENTO – Call it a feline fortune if you will. Patricia Witt decided to take some money she received for taking care of a friend’s cats and buy some California Lottery Scratchers tickets. That decision turned out to be purrrfect, as one lucky ticket would catapult Witt into the world of newfound wealth.

The retired grocery store clerk says she was in disbelief when she saw the $1 million figure on her $10 California Gold Scratchers ticket she purchased at the CVS Pharmacy, located at 1382 North Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks (Ventura County). “I could not believe it at all, it just feels like a Cinderella story,” Witt said.

Witt told the California Lottery that she is in fact allergic to cats. “I was helping a friend who didn’t have anyone to help,” Witt said. The first thing Witt did when she won was call her friends. As for the future, Witt says she plans on using the money for her retirement.

Witt wasn’t the only winner. The CVS location will receive one half of a percent, or $5,000 in a retailer bonus, for selling the top prize-winning ticket.

The winning certainly doesn’t stop there – like all Lottery Scratchers games, the California Gold game comes with a second chance to win the top prize. Just subscribe to our 2nd Chance Program and submit any non-winning California Gold Scratchers ticket codes for another chance to win. The game is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for California public schools.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 95 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
