Grocery Store Employee Claims $295,490 Fantasy 5 Jackpot

SACRAMENTO – Steven Mc Girr is a hard-working grocery store employee. His wife is a hard-working waitress. So naturally when he went into a California Lottery retail location to check his ticket and discovered that he was a big winner, he was more than a little excited.

“It was surreal,” Mc Girr said when he came into the Lottery’s Van Nuys District Office to claim his $295,490 Fantasy 5 jackpot. He added that the retailer also shared in the excitement of the moment and was jumping up and down.

The winning ticket was purchased at Tip Top Liquor & Jr Market, which is located at 2501 West Victory Boulevard #A. The numbers on the winning ticket are 20, 39, 19, 1 and 17.

When asked if he was planning on taking a much-deserved vacation with his winnings, Mc Girr stated that he and his wife were “going to Disneyland.” The he paused and added “of course we’re going in my wife’s new car.” No word whether the couple’s two kids are invited on the trip.

Fantasy 5 offers some of the best odds of any California Lottery game. A player wins the Fantasy 5 jackpot simply by matching five numbers out of a field of 39. Winning numbers are drawn every day. The top prize starts at $50,000 and increases daily until it is hit. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers.

The California Lottery is celebrating 25 years of enhancing education and supporting local communities. More than 94 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail commissions. Since 2000, Lottery players have contributed $1 billion to public schools each year and since we began in 1985, Lottery players have contributed more than $22 billion to education.
