On November 14, 2003, the California Lottery announced that Gold Ranch Lottery, owned by the Sands Hotel, has been named California Lottery's Retailer of the Year. A special presentation will be held at Gold Ranch Lottery, which is on the California/Nevada border on Interstate 80, near Verdi, Nevada at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2003.
“Gold Ranch Lottery has been a top retailer since they started selling Lottery products. They are the type of retailer that others strive to become, not only from a sales perspective, but their customer service and community involvement are stellar as well,” said Lottery CEO, Tony Molica.
Gold Ranch Lottery has been a Lottery retailer since 1998 but the current owners began selling in May of 2002. In just over a year of sales, they achieved a total sales figure of $2 million, which translates into $660,000 for California’s public schools. Since sales actually began in 1998, $17 million in Lottery products have been sold which means an astonishing $6 million has been contributed to California’s schools from this location alone.
Owned by the Sands Regency Hotel, Gold Ranch and their employees are also heavily involved in their community. Managers Rob Medeiros and Sheila Clark brag about their support of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. The Managers also brag about their staff. “We are very proud of our sales but even more proud of our staff,” explains Medeiros.
The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52.5 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 13.5 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.9 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985 the Lottery has raised more than $14 billion for public schools.
